Fat Reduction Versus Weight LossWhen it comes to CoolSculpting, and its ability to freeze fat, you may have some questions. You may wonder what the difference is between losing weight and losing fat.

In this article, we look at fat reduction versus weight loss. It may be confusing to hear that reducing fat is not the same as losing weight. When it comes to freezing fat, it’s all about what happens to your fat cells.

Looking at Fat Cells

Here are two important things worth noting:

  • Losing weight makes fat cells smaller.
  • Losing weight does not make fat cells go away.

Sometime in your teenage years, the number of fat cells in your body usually becomes a fixed number.

When you lose or gain weight, your body generally does not increase or decrease the number of fat cells. Instead, your body changes the size of fat cells.

Gaining weight makes your fat cells get bigger. After dieting and losing weight, your fat cells get smaller, but the number of your fat cells remains the same.

When you have the CoolSculpting fat-freezing procedure, the number of fat cells in the treated areas is actually reduced by about 20% to 25%.

The treatment naturally processes and eliminates these fat cells so they won’t migrate to another area of your body. There is no change to fat cells in untreated areas*.

How Your Body Processes Fat

the fat you eat in food travels through your digestive system and moves to the liver. Processed fat is the energy source for your body. Excess fat is stored in fat cells. How Fat is Processed

How Your Body Processes Fat Cells After CoolSculpting Treatment

A normal fat cell is round.  As the CoolSculpting treatment is applied, the fat cell freezes and starts to die. During the process of cell death, the fat cell begins to collapse. Over the next few weeks, other cells consume the dead fat cells, which are then naturally processed and eliminated from your body.

The Fat Cells Are Gone for Good

The CoolSculpting procedure will NOT help you lose weight. However, if you want to lose unwanted fat and look slimmer in your clothes, then CoolSculpting may be right for you.
