Your brows tell people how you feel. Your friends and family can often tell if you are happy,
sad or angry by the
"wrinkles" in your brow. Unfortunately, for some of us these wrinkles are or can become permanent. Overactive muscles in the forehead and
brow areas, heredity or the way you age can cause these.
A brow lift is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above your eyes. A brow lift corrects the sagging brows and smoothes the wrinkles that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. If you are bothered by expression lines or other signs of aging in your forehead and brow, then a brow lift may be right for you.
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift can:
- Reduce the furrows and other signs of aging in the forehead and brow areas, creating a softer, relaxed and rejuvenated facial appearance
- Minimize the creases that develop across the forehead, or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes
- Improve what are commonly referred to as "frown lines" - vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows
- Reposition a low or sagging brow that is hooding the upper eyelid
- Raise the eyebrows to a more alert and youthful position
Brow Lift Procedure
Your surgeon will give you certain preoperative care instructions. While we have included some on our website, they should not be a substitute for your physician's instructions. Your brow lift may take two hours or more, depending on the extent of rejuvenation, the techniques your surgeon uses, and if any other procedures are performed at the same time. Eyelid surgery and a facelift are common procedures performed in conjunction with a brow lift.
A consultation with one of the physicians at the Plastic Surgery Center is your essential first step to learn how eyelid surgery can improve the appearance of your brow and the surrounding area. If you're ready to schedule your complimentary cosmetic consultation* and discuss your brow lift in more detail, call us at 316.688.7500 or request your consultation online today.
What to Expect
Your surgery may be performed in our accredited ambulatory surgical suite or a hospital. The method of anesthesia used is based on the patient and surgeon's preference. At the Plastic Surgery Center, your safety and comfort are very important.
Brow Lift Recovery Time and Expectations
During the healing process, you can expect some swelling, numbness and discomfort that can be controlled with medication. Your physician will provide you with more specific post op instructions. We have included some basic instructions on our website, but they should not be a substitute for your physician's specific guidelines.
It may take 5 -10 days for your initial wound healing. You can then return to work and normal activity. You may also wear makeup to camouflage any bruising. Your healing will continue for several weeks. It is very important to use sun protection and to follow your surgeon's instructions.
After the Brow Lift
You should plan on using sun protection and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to extend the results of your brow lift. It may take a few months for your swelling to resolve completely. It may take up to a year for your incision lines to fully fade. Even as your face continues to age, you will enjoy the results of your brow lift for many years.
Your brow lift may be further enhanced through laser resurfacing or a chemical peel that will help improve skin tone and surface appearance.
*Some restrictions may apply on the complimentary consultation. Does not apply to insurance funded surgeries.
