Today we said goodbye and celebrated a new chapter in Dr. Ferris’ life as he steps into retirement. A hardworking, compassionate, and highly skilled plastic surgeon, it is difficult for us, if not impossible, to sum up his achievements over his 45 years of dedicated service. We are so grateful for our time spent with him. He has been such a blessing to his many patients and staff over the years!
Through his cosmetic and reconstructive work at the Plastic Surgery Center, his time as the president of the St. Francis Medical Staff and Chairman of the Surgery Department of St. Francis, his leadership of the Wichita Area Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic where he was able to help generations of children, and his HCA Wesley Frist Humanitarian Award, Dr. Ferris has exemplified service, care, and professionalism.
We honor his more than 30 mission trips throughout the world with Operation Smile and Partners in Health where for a month each year he provided free reconstructive surgeries for children and adults. He has also given much of his time to not only train surgical residents in the Wichita area, but he has trained Rwandan surgical residents in the area of plastic and reconstructive surgery for many years.
In his HCA Wesley Frist Humanitarian Award, he was chosen because of his ability to show “remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of patients, demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to community service, motivate others to care for the community and people in need, and lastly, demonstrate modesty and genuine humility.”
This sums up Dr. Ferris and the many years of his career. As we say goodbye to Dr. Ferris, we know he will thrive in his retirement enjoying time spent with his family, backpacking, golfing, gardening, skiing, caring for others, and trekking all over the world.
