Our History •
The Plastic Surgery Center in Wichita is the longest standing private plastic surgery practice in the state of Kansas.
Throughout the last fifty plus years, our mission has been, and continues to be, to provide the highest quality of care along with the highest standard of safety and technical expertise to our patients.
For more than five decades, our doctors, nurses, and staff have dedicated themselves to the care of our reconstructive, cosmetic and skincare patients through continued education and the highest board certifications. You will only find the most qualified plastic surgeons at our office.
Let’s look at a brief history of the practice.
In 1968, Dr. Gerald Nelson opened the Plastic Surgery Center on North Emporia in Wichita. Over the next five decades, the office would move several more times, including once across from Wesley on Hillside. The final move happened in 2005 when the office landed at its current location on Webb Road.
Dr. Thomas Kendall joined the practice in 1970. During the 1970s, Dr. Nelson and Dr. Kendall began the Wichita Cleft Palate Clinic which is still in existence today and run by the Plastic Surgery Center. In addition, Dr. Kendall was instrumental in starting the Wesley Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit and the St. Francis Burn Unit where the Plastic Surgery Center physicians worked on burn patients.
In 1975, Dr. Richard Shaw joined the Plastic Surgery Center, and later in 1976, Dr. Bruce Ferris rounded out the practice of four plastic surgeons who were dedicated to providing excellence in plastic surgery.
In 2006, Dr. Amy Sprole joined Dr. Ferris and became the first female plastic surgeon in the Wichita area. In 2017, Dr. Nataliya Biskup joined the practice adding additional expertise in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery, as well general plastic surgery.
Kansas’ Longest Standing Plastic Surgery Practice
Present Day at PSC
Our practice has always provided a full spectrum of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery options. It continues to be dedicated to the provision of reconstructive surgery for trauma, cancer, and pediatric patients. Over the years, the cosmetic side of our practice, both surgical and non-surgical, has also greatly expanded. In the 1990s, our office began offering an entire menu of minimally invasive to non-invasive skin care treatments, such as injectables, fillers, laser treatments, facials, and medical grade skin care products.
In 2019, the Plastic Surgery Center opened their second location in west Wichita. With offices on both sides of Wichita, we are able to see surgical patients for consultations at both locations. In addition, patients will find a full-service skin care department at both locations staffed by two registered nurse injectors, an aesthetic injector, and two medical aestheticians. This way, you can make an appointment where most convenient for you. By staffing both offices with the physicians and skin care providers you rely on, we can take care of our patient’s needs, whether they live or work east or west.
Dr. Joe Spaniol joined the practice in 2021 and offers the full spectrum cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures to help you meet your goals.
