While they sound similar, losing weight and reducing fat are different. When people lose weight, they may not always have a more sculpted appearance. But, when they reduce fat, their body contours and shape can change.
So, while many of our patients are healthy, eat well, and exercise, they find they still have pockets of fat that just won’t go away. This is where CoolSculpting® comes in.
What is CoolSculpting?
It’s an FDA-cleared procedure that treats visible fat bulges under the chin and jawline areas, thighs, abdomen and flank, as well as bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks and the upper arm. It is not a treatment for weight loss, but it does help those people who have stubborn pockets of fat that are difficult to reduce despite diet and exercise efforts.
How Does It Work?
CoolSculpting is fat loss, not weight loss. The number of fat cells you’re going to have is set during childhood and your teens years. It’s specific to you and varies from person to person. If you gain weight, your fat cells expand, causing your body to expand. If you eat healthy and exercise, your fat cells shrink. If you stop your healthy habits, the fat cells expand again, adding unwanted bulges.
CoolSculpting addresses these bulges using cryolipolysis technology (precisely controlled cooling). It’s a non-invasive treatment that targets and freezes fat cells. As your body naturally eliminates the dead cells in two-six months or more, you see up to a 20-25% fat reduction in the treated areas. We can pinpoint your exact trouble spots and customize a treatment plan that’s unique to you and your body contouring goals.
What is the Treatment Like?
We apply a clear gel pad to your treatment area to create a barrier between your skin and the cooling panel. You may feel a slight sucking sensation as the applicator adheres to your body. You may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, cold, mild pinching, stinging, aching, or cramping at the treatment site, but they subside as the area gets numb.
During treatment, you can read, answer emails, or chat with a friend. We do a brief massage afterwards on the area to break up the treated fat cells and enhance the fat reduction. That’s it! Most of our patients experience little to no downtime after treatment.
The Ideal CoolSculpting Candidate
If you have healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle, cryolipolysis is a safe and effective way to reduce excess fat. It is best for patients at or near their ideal body weight who want to reduce fat in one or more of the FDA-cleared treatment areas. More than one treatment is usually needed.
If you’d like to learn how CoolSculpting can help in those areas that have resisted diet and exercise efforts, your first step is a consultation at the Plastic Surgery Center to learn if CoolSculpting is right for you.
Real Patients. Real Results.
Our sixty-five-year-old patient explains how happy she is with her CoolSculpting lower abdomen treatments and her fantastic results.
Tell us about your journey to CoolSculpting:
PSC Patient: I heard about it at an event and decided I wanted to give it a try. I eat well and exercise, but the spot right below my belly button had bothered me for a long time, and I wanted to get rid of it.
How did you feel during and after the treatment?
PSC Patient: The treatment itself was a great experience. I got to relax in a quiet room, read a magazine, nap, and look at my phone. It was super comfortable, and I had no pain, discomfort, or stinging. That was it. I left and went about my day as if nothing had happened.
When did you notice your results?
PSC Patient: About a week or so after treatment I began to notice my stomach looked different. About three weeks later, I said to myself, “Wow, my stomach fat is gone now.” It’s definitely a gradual change.
Are you happy with your results?
PSC Patient: Yes, I am very happy with my results, and I am thinking about doing it again on a different area. My clothes feel better, and it’s such an easy treatment with no bruising or pain. I feel great, and I am so glad I did it.
Do you have advice for people considering CoolSculpting?
PSC Patient: Do it. You can go in over your lunch hour, relax, leave, and feel so much more self-confident in a little bit of time. For me, the key to a really great treatment is that it looks so good no one knows you did it. That’s CoolSculpting.
